Dicken’s Book “A Christmas Carol”

A Christmas Carol (full title: A Christmas Carol in Prose, Being a Ghost Story of Christmas) is a novel by Charles Dickens.


A Christmas Carol was published on December 19, 1843 and was sold on the 22nd. The first version was illustrated by John Leech. The book was so immediately successful with sales of 6000 copies within one week. Dickens wrote this book to a debt to repay (and the sales success was therefore more important than the literary value).


The book came out in a period when the traditions of Christmas were held less and less honor. A Christmas Carol performed a change.
