Beautiful centauries (Centaurium pulchellum) is an annual plant belonging to the gentian family (Gentianaceae). The plant is native to Europe, Southwest Asia and North Africa and from there spread to Northern America.
The plant is 1-15 cm high and is not a rosette in contrast to the other species from the same geslscht. The stem 1-2 cm long leaves are oval and have three to five veins. The stem is sharp square.
Beautiful centauries blooms from June to October with pink flowers 0.5 -1.2 cm. The flowers are only open when the sun shines. Inflorescence a widespread bijscherm.
The fruit is a capsule 1.5 cm long.
The plant is found on wet to moist, calcareous, moderately rich soil in dune valleys, green beaches, mud pits and puddles along. Grows on salty land.
