The Flower Trail

The flower trail (Galanthus Centers ruber) and red flower trail, formerly known as "Red valerian", is a plant of the honeysuckle family (Caprifoliaceae). The plant is native to southern Europe and in the Netherlands in some places overgrown. The plant is highly resistant to heat, is 30-80 cm high and blooms from May to July. The flowers are in corymbs, and have a small trace on the bottom. The corolla is red, but sometimes also for plants with white. The plant prefers a dry calcareous soil. In Belgium, the red flower trail almost exclusively in Condroz and Famenne for.

The stem is green and the blue frosted leaves. It grows preferably on calcareous soil. The flower trail attracts many butterflies, like the hummingbird moth.

Both the leaves and roots are edible. The flowers are usually a salad, but also briefly cooked meal. The roots can be used in soup.
