The Bloom Evergreen

Bloom evergreen (Moneses uniflora, synonym: Pyrola uniflora) is a herbaceous perennial belonging to the heifamilie (Ericaceae). It is a plant of moist, moderately nutrient-poor, slightly acid soil in forests. Evergreen bloom occurs naturally in the temperate regions and in the mountains of the warmer areas of the entire northern hemisphere. In the Netherlands, the plant only to Terschelling. She is on the Dutch Red List of plants as very rare and stable or increased.


The plant grows 5-10 cm high and has a thin, branching rhizome (rhizome). The leaves are 1-2 cm wide circle to spatula-shaped with a serrated-edge blade serrated.


Only one flower per plant formed, hence the name evergreen bloom. Evergreen flowers bloom from June to September with white, nodding, 1-2 cm wide, bisexual flowers. The corolla is flat spread. The calyx lips are ovate with a blunt point. About 1 cm below the flower petals are one or two stems.


The fruit is nearly round, 6-8 mm wide, vijfhokkige capsule containing many small seeds, which splits open lengthwise fives. The fruits and seeds are edible.
